We welcome Dr. Denise Mago, dermatologist and skin specialist, this afternoon. Dr. Mago is at the Clinica Vista Alegre in Caracas, and she will be talking to us about skin care and the presence of moles.

1) What are moles that appear on the skin? Dr. Denise Mago: "Moles, medically known as nevi, are small accumulations of melanocytes that grow in clusters on the skin. They are usually benign and appear as round, oval, flat, or raised spots; they can be brown, black, or pink”. 2) A benign mole grows in a circular pattern. Does this describe a common growth pattern in non-cancerous skin lesions? Dr. Denise Mago: "Benign moles are easily confused with melanomas. These are atypical moles, with flat or raised, dark-colored growths. They measure more than one centimeter in diameter, are not round, and can appear at any age".

3) How can benign moles be distinguished from malignant ones? Dr. Denise Mago: "When evaluating moles, dermatologists use the 'ABCDE' rule to differentiate between benign (harmless) and potentially malignant (cancerous) growths. This refers to the following: A - Asymmetry: whether both halves match or not.

B - Border: whether they are smooth, uniform, and well-defined, or irregular or blurred.

C - Color: whether they are a uniform color, generally beige or brown, or multicolored or multicolored.

D - Diameter: whether they are generally less than 6 mm or larger than this measurement.

E - Evolution: whether they remain stable over time, or whether they change in size, shape, color, or height".
